abusive; scolding; angrily shouting
Every time I come home late from work I have to listen to an hour of vituperative shouting from my wife.
vitium (fault, defect, blemish, crime, vice) (Latin)
abrasive, caustic, sardonic, trenchant, vitriolic, vituperative
In older days H2SO4 was called oil of vitriol that is severly bitter and caustic. VITUPERATIVE appears as 'operating' vitriol on someone. Note that vtriolic and VITUPERATIVE have almost similar meaning.
